It pays to not take yourself so seriously!
There’s one thing that I’m guilty of. This brings me pain to admit even to myself, let alone other people – I have a strong tendency to take myself way too seriously in life. Which is not to say I don’t have a sense of humor or a personality, but I too often don’t give myself permission to let my hair down enough in life.
There’s something magical about a smile on your face. It has a strong tendency to lift your mood, just from moving certain muscles in your face. Your body influences your mental state, more than you may be consciously aware of.
There’s something deeply relaxing about a belly laugh. It really melts the tension away and brightens up your day! Anxiety becomes easier to handle, and you just feel stronger overall when you make smiling and laughter a habit in your life.
If you’re not used to laughing at yourself, start small. Look for absurd, funny things to smile at over the course of the day. Perhaps think of something funny that happened from your past. I have a unique sense of humor in that I find very absurd things funny that other people might not. I’m pretty sure everyone has their own unique way of determining and perceiving humor – accept and embrace that.
It doesn't matter if others don't share your own unique sense of humor.
What you should realize is that it doesn’t matter what specifically tickles your funny bone, so long as you take the action of laughing at things. You’ll find you’ll be happier overall, with lower stress levels and a brighter outlook on life. By doing this simple action, you’ll make life that much brighter for yourself and by extension, everyone else around you.
Even if other people will find your sense of humor to be completely dumb, what’s important is that you don’t – you find it funny. Own that. It’s your own unique sense of humor. No shame in this, you’re just enjoying good laughter. You don’t have to share it with other people, you just have to take the time each day to laugh at whatever you want to.
Take regular time every day to smile and laugh!
Laughter is the best medicine, as the saying goes. Laughter is one of the best ways to brighten your day. It can serve as the ray of sunshine on a bad day and can make good days even better.
So, take the time to laugh without regard for what others may think. It can be about anything, anything at all. Do it in private. Tell jokes to others if you feel so inclined to do that. Whatever it takes to make humor and laughter a part of your life.
Your happiness levels will thank you!
