This pandemic can be a time of real change in your life, if you decide that it can!
Right now, we’re in the midst of a global pandemic that we never wanted, expected, or dreamed would happen on our lifetime. This virus is something that is taking its toll on our mental state, friendships, family, relationships with our significant others, and will lower the quality of life for millions of people. I don’t know about you, but this coronavirus pandemic has shown me just how vulnerable we are as a species to random acts of God. As I was working on the manuscript of my book “Become Whole”, I was let go right after the pandemic hit fast and furiously. This was not a temporary furlough, but a complete severance.
I was a man who steered his ship in life, and then BOOM. My planned life course was altered permanently. I know I’m not the only one to feel that loss of personal control over his life.
I could’ve laid down and curled up into a ball, but I didn’t. I realized that I still had some control over my ship in life, but the winds of change took it to an unplanned direction. I took focused actions to make the best of the situation.
One of the biggest changes I made during this period was that I became rather obsessed with self-improvement. As a personal development author and lifelong learner, I couldn’t see myself doing anything else. No other employers were knocking on my door. Even if they did, I would have no idea if I would get the virus as a result of taking other employment
How you can make the most of this pandemic downtime
Many of us have a lot of free time on our hands right now sitting at home. If we let it, cabin fever and boredom can set in.
Do something for yourself with this free time. If you have an active Internet connection, you can access a wealth of information right at your fingertips, such as the blog you’re reading right now. Order my book if you haven’t already. Order other great books as well. Listen to uplifting videos on YouTube – you can literally find videos on every subject you’d like to learn. You can start your own business, or at the very least, draw up a business plan. What was a dream you’ve always had?
Also, please take care of your physical body during this time, as best as you can. Order fitness equipment online if the gyms are closed around you. Barring that, look up bodyweight exercises, many of which are great at training your muscles. A kettlebell and a pair of dumbbells are all you need to get started. Walk around outdoors or invest in cardio equipment. Understandably, cost is a major concern. I strongly urge you to take as many free routes as possible to stay in shape. If you live in a suburb, find local parks with trails to walk. If you live in a rural area, walk around in areas that you know is safe.
I emphasize that you can improve your physical and emotional self in times like this with hardly any outlays of cash. It is possible to immerse yourself in personal development without spending hardly any cash at all.
This time at home is a gift. Every hour, every minute, every day is a gift. Seize it and use it accordingly.
